Most of us are in pursuit of glowing, luminous skin and will pay just about anything to get it. The problem is that there is no miracle cure that comes in 1 bottle. Many people spend their lives switching from brand to brand, trying to find the most optimal product for them. We should make time for our bodies to be nurtured through healthy exercise and exposure to nature. Spirit should be nurtured through daily meditation or stillness. You don’t necessarily need to meditate to balance your spirit, but making time to stop thinking and just sit quietly, allowing your mind to listen to messages from your body. We have lost touch with this trinity of health and it’s important to consider how harmonious we long to be as human beings.

So how do essential oils tie into skin care? Well they can provide an incredible boost to your current skin care routine while healing skin conditions/ailments while improving the overall appearance of your skin. Utilizing the powerful benefits of essential oils can change your life forever. Note that using essential oils as a ‘newbie’ can be exciting but it can also cause issues if they are not prepared correctly or diluted properly. Be sure to do ALL your research before using any of the essential oils in this post.

Geranium is a great oil to use for balancing oil production, conditioning skin, and can be used for all skin types. If you produce too much or too little oil, incorporate a little geranium oil into your moisturizer to help re-balance the production (a few drops at most). We suggest Equate Beauty Strikingly Unique Moisturizing Lotion on because it is affordable, designed for dry or combination skin, and helps to improve skins moisture barrier. You could also try a geranium facial spray like the one below:

  • Get a spray mister and fill with mineral water. Mineral water provides a nice pH balance for our skin and also helps us absorb minerals. Add a few drops of geranium or lavender essential oil to help hydrate skin, especially in the winter months. Apply throughout the day to help keep your skin balanced and moisturized.

Ylang Ylang

Ylang ylang is great for treating oily or acne prone skin. It can also help to stimulate cell growth to fight the effects of aging. Ylang ylang has a pleasant scent which will soothe the senses if you are using it for facial care. Try an oily skin oil mask (yes you read correctly).

Add about 10-15 drops of essential oil for every ounce of almond oil (carrier oil). Store the oil in a dark, glass jar to retain its potency and apply after your evening face cleansing routine is complete. Use this mixture after exfoliating skin with Equate Beauty AM Refreshing Facial Cleanser available on Applying the oil at the end of the night allows your skin to absorb the mask and all its goodness while your sleep. Ensure you add just enough to lightly coat the skin, do not add too much.

Lemongrass is highly effective for treating both large pores and acne. Lemongrass can also be used as an astringent, skin toner, and is great at enhancing skins glow! It also repels bugs naturally. Try this lemongrass body lotion.

Combine 5 drops of lemongrass oil and 5 drops of clove oil with 1 cup of unscented body lotion such as Beauty 360 Daily Moisturizing Lotion with Oatmeal available for $9.69 on Mix together in a bowl and transfer to an empty squeeze bottle. Lemongrass and clove oil deter mosquitoes and ticks from biting you – bonus! The lemongrass can also be diluted into mineral water to make a DIY toner to help with acne and large pores.

Tea Tree

Tea tree oil is a powerhouse of usefulness. The uses for tea tree oil are countless. A few include its antifungal, and antibacterial properties. This means it’s ideal for acne prone and oily skin. Try to make your own makeup remover wipes see the directions below:

  • 2 tablespoons witch hazel
  • 2 tablespoons of almond oil
  • 2 tablespoons of filtered water
  • 1-2 drops tea tree oil

To make pre-soaked wipes you’ll want to add a drop or two of tea tree oil in order to keep bacteria away. Take a roll of paper towels and cut the roll in half cross-wise. Using an airtight container, place one half of the cut roll into the container and pour the solution over the roll. If you need to increase the amount of solution to cover the wipes, keep the 1:1:1 ratio of the three ingredients above, and add 1-2 more drops of tea tree oil per batch. The cardboard tube should easily come out once the solution is soaked through the paper towels. Flip the paper towel roll over in the container to make sure the other side of the roll is also soaked. Keep the lid on the container until needed, and pull wipes from the center of the roll. Use the wipes to remove eye makeup before climbing into bed!

There are so many uses for essential oils that can benefit your life in many ways. We suggest testing all of the products on your wrist PRIOR to applying on face or body. Wait 20 minutes to ensure the solution is not too potent or irritating for your skin type. We hope you find benefit from these powerful, natural oils.
