Finding the best skin care products can be exhausting. It seems like every time we find something that makes our skin sing, it ends up becoming ineffective after a few months of use. Is this because our skin becomes use to a certain skin product? Does our skin become immune to the benefits that the product offers? Whatever the reason, we should have a fairly consistent skin care regime that is modified with seasonal changes, and enhanced with occasional, non-surgical procedures that can help your skin thrive all times of the year.
What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that uses crystals or diamond tips to help remove the superficial layer of dead skin cells. The process involves tricking the body into believing your skin has experienced an injury (by removing it) where it quickly regenerates new, healthy skin cells. This process may take 30 minutes and has been dubbed the instant face-lift. There are some professional microdermabrasion systems that use a vacuum to loosen dead skin cells from the face. The option of performing this at home is available with at-home microdermabrasion kits – or stick to something gentler like a microdermabrasion cloth.
Is Microdermabrasion Effective?
The best results occur for people who are in the early stages of aging (35-50). Depending on how many treatments you have, you may see results in the elasticity, clarity, and texture of your skin. You can safely undergo this treatment every 4 weeks or so. If you are diligent with the procedures and maintain a healthy skin care regime AND diet, you can easily see results much sooner than 4 weeks from our experience. Beauty360 Illuminating Facial Cleanser is a perfect pair with a microdermabrasion cloth as it will brighten your skin, leaving you glowing all day long! Get it on CVS.com for $4.89.
Keep skin well hydrated with a lot of water and moisturize regularly. Equate Beauty Strikingly Unique Moisturizing Lotion (Walmart.com for $3.98! On sale from $12.87!) is an economic solution to expensive, big label brands that will leave you skin in the same condition as this dupe!
Care for aging skin all over your body with Up&Up Revitalizing Body Wash which nourishes skin and hydrates, leaving skin smooth, supple, and younger looking.
When to Avoid Microdermabrasion?
This procedure has many benefits and can improve the look of skin for many individuals. However; it is not recommended if you have skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema, dermatitis, a sunburn, herpes, lupus, open sores, psoriasis, fragile capillaries or a lot of acne. You do not want to exasperate these conditions with a procedure such as this. Note that this procedure does stimulate blood flow, which increases the nutrition delivered to the skin cells which improves cell reproduction. In turn it may improve the look of acne scars or other marks on the skin over time.
What is a Microdermabrasion Kit?
If you have already determined that you would likely benefit from these treatments, you can look into some kits which can allow you to perform this procedure at home. The difference would be that the at-home kit will not be as powerful, precise, or sterile as going to a professional. Kits may include various types of tools such as facial brushes, microdermabrasion pens with spinning disks, creams, and cloths. Which one is best for you? We’ll let you be the judge.
