Spring is just around the corner and honestly we are all very excited! This winter has been cold, long, and just about done with. Spring is a time for cute outfits, floral dresses, wild n free hair, and light makeup looks. Or just less layers and more sunlight. As the weather gets nicer and nicer we find ourselves searching for new ways to get ‘the look’ with little time and effort. Good news for you. Here is how to get the volume you desire.
What You Will Need
- Hair dryer with concentrator attachment
- Big round brush
- Curling wand or curling iron
- Teasing brush or paddle brush
- Volumizing spray or powder: Equate Fabulous Firm Volumizing Hairspray ($8.77 on Walmart.com)
Step 1: Heat Protector
Start by washing your hair with a renewing shampoo or conditioner like Beauty 360 Moroccan Argan Oil Renewing Conditioner (cvs.com for $4.19) and apply a heat protectant all over the hair. This is an essential part of the process since we will be applying heat for prolonged periods of time. The protectant will help retain moisture in the hair and keep it from drying out. Neglecting to use a heat protectant can leave your hair damaged, broken, brittle, and frizzy. A perfect heat protectant AND so much more is It’s a 10 Miracle Leave In Conditionerfrom Walmart.com.
Step 2: Blow Out
The round brush is essential to this process. It’s what gives you the perfect blow out. Using your round brush take small sections of your hair and wrap the hair around the brush, starting at the root. Start blow drying, and slowly pull the brush out from the roots to tip while drying the hair. Be sure to keep the dryer nozzle pointed downward so that all the hair dries in the same direction smoothly. Repeat this process by rolling the brush back up to the root section until the section is completely dry.
Set your hair once it is all dried with a blast of cold air from the hair dryer.
Step 3: Curl the Hair
Using a curling wand, twist sections of your hair away from your face, curling all sections in the same direction. Use your fingers to check when hair is hot enough on the wand to release it. Leave the sections curled until your all done as this will allow the curls to set, and stay curled longer.
Step 4: Tease the Curls
This literally makes your hair bigger all over, rather than just at the roots. If you backcomb each section , the hair expands, giving hair volume and thickness.
Use your teasing brush or paddle brush to tease the curls and be gentle. You do not want to create a big ball of frizz.
Step 5: Add Volumizing Spray!
This gives your hair extra oomph. Spray at the roots and through the curled sections and work the product in. Do not add to much spray to weigh the hair down. Just enough to enhance the look.
Voila! You’re done!
