We always want to keep our hair healthy and beautiful so a little maintenance is in order every once in a while. Being able to give your hair the nourishment it needs is vital to its health especially with all the environmental toxins and chemicals we are exposed to every day. This is where deep conditioning treatments come into play since they can help hair regenerate and rest from the daily usage of heat and chemicals. Try one of these treatments and you’ll see what a huge difference it will make with your hair!

Intense Moisture Hair Mask

This recipe will make a larger batch of about 7 – 80z. batches but you can adjust quantities as you’d like by simply adding 2 parts coconut oil to 1 part jojoba oil with a few drops of tea tree oil per batch. Argan oil can also be used in this recipe instead of jojoba but if you’re looking for a more affordable option, jojoba it is. The tea tree oil can also be substituted for another essential oil of your choosing.

Ingredients:

  • 8 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 4 tablespoons jojoba oil
  • 15-20 drops tea tree oil (or another essential oil of your choosing)

Directions:

Begin by mixing up the coconut oil in a bowl until it becomes smooth or silky in consistency. No microwave required, a little elbow grease will do the job. Once you reach desired consistency, add your jojoba oil and essential oil. Mix very well. Beat with a whisk (or electric mixer) to thoroughly combine. Transfer contents to a re-sealable container like a mason jar or plastic container. Glass is always better so try to find small sized mason jars and they can be re-used in future!

For a deep condition: Slather oil on damp/wet hair and let sit for 3-5 minutes. Get in shower and shampoo and condition as usual.

For a hot oil treatment: Slather on damp/wet hair. Cover hair with a hot towel, fresh from dryer – or put on a shower cap and use a blow dryer to heat up your hair. Let sit for 15 minutes then shampoo and condition as usual.

Restore and Nourish DIY Deep Conditioner

Eggs are rich in protein which is a component of hair, so eggs restore and nourish your strands.

Ingredients:

  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1/8 cup water

NOTE: You may need to double or half these amounts depending on the length of your hair. After the first attempt you’ll know what your specific requirements will be.

Directions:

Mix ingredients well in a medium sized bowl. Apply all over hair after shampooing and leave on for at least 15 minutes. Rinse off in shower with cool – NOT HOT – water.

After completing your deep conditioning treatment we recommend avoiding the use of heat, or chemical products for a few days to really let your hair benefit from the treatment. Try doing it on a Friday and then styling as usual for Monday morning. Try to plan this around big events and have a plan for styling hair for a few days without the use of heat or products.

When you are finally ready and your hair is rejuvenated you’ll notice a HUGE difference in the feel and health of your hair! A few styling products we suggest include It’s a 10 Miracle Leave In Conditioner from Walmart.com for $17.96 and Equate Beauty Fabulously Firm Hair Volumizing Hairspray for only $8.77 on Walmart.com!
