Your hair is essentially an extension of you – it’s part of who you are. Some people identify themselves by their signature locks and incorporate a lot of time & energy to making it look great. We have some helpful habits that you can start doing today to get perfect hair – for whatever unique style you want to rock.

Switch up Your Products

Some say they love the hair care products they use and have not ventured away from them for many years. Others notice their hair gets used to certain products and needs something new every once in a while. Typically it is good to utilize various brands of shampoo, trying out different formulations to see what works best for you. There is not 1 miracle product out there, so changing it up could actually introduce you to a product that works fantastic for your hair type. We love CVS Keratin Straightening Shampoo & Conditioner, available on CVS.com for $5.99 each. This product uses keratin proteins and cocoa butter to straighten and smooth cuticles for straighter hair with a lustrous shine. This is a great option for the days when you decide that sleek is the look you are going for. It can also help to tame wild or frizzy hair. We love this stuff.

Don’t Wash Your Hair Every Day

Get Regular Trims

Trimming your hair every few months promotes hair to grow longer and faster. Not only that you eliminate any split ends which may cause knots or tangles. If you can’t get to a hairdresser, invest in a good pair of styling scissors and trim the ends yourself. Taking off such small amounts will not leave an obvious impression in your hair, so you really have nothing to fear. Just take your time, and start with small sections at a time. After a few trims, you’ll feel like a professional.

Reduce the Frequency of Brushing

Brushing can cause breakage of strands – in turn damaging hair. Habits of people with perfect hair often do not brush their hair at all. If they do, they will use only natural fiber brushes and carefully run it through their hair. Brushing when hair is wet can cause breakage easier than if it was dry. If you can, try to ditch the brush all together and just run your fingers through it. If you have to brush, do it when it’s dry, brush small sections at a time, and work your way up from the bottom.

Let Hair Dry Naturally

I know, we all have things to do and places to be, but heat application is one of the worst things you can do to your hair! Heat will damage and dry out your strands, leaving you with reasons to use MORE products to try counteract the negative effects. I understand using a blow dryer here and there, but let it dry naturally as often as possible. If you don’t have time to do this, try washing at night instead of in the morning. You could also minimize blow drying, allowing MOST of your hair to dry naturally while you continue getting ready for the day.

You could even get your skin care routine going while your hair is drying. Check out our post called Glowing Skin for some insight on a cleansing routine, and excellent tips to improve the health of your skin. We just love Equate Beauty Strikingly Unique Moisturizing Lotion available on Walmart.com for $9.96. It is most effective for dry or combination skin.
